Rooted in Piedmont

Our Story

Homegrown & Trail-Inspired

Pinhoti Pizza Company was created by Kevin and Maggie Cunningham as a way to celebrate their hometown of Piedmont and its incredible outdoor playground. With deep family roots in the community and a background in outdoor recreation, they wanted a place where locals and visitors could gather around great food and trail stories.

The restaurant opened in a Main Street building that once housed Maggie’s family hardware store. Today, the same building welcomes hikers, cyclists, paddlers, and hungry neighbors.

Pizza, People & Place

Kevin’s love of kayaking and trail adventures shows up in the décor – look for retro bikes, canoes, and gear on the walls, plus tabletops covered with local trail maps. The goal is simple: help people discover just how much there is to do outside around Piedmont.

From appreciation dinners for trail volunteers to live music and cornhole tournaments, Pinhoti Pizza has quickly become a gathering spot for the outdoor community and beyond.

Timeline

Before the oven

Hardware store roots

The building at 107 S Main St served Piedmont for years as a local hardware store where Maggie grew up working with her family.

Outdoor obsession

Kayaks, bikes & big ideas

Kevin operated an outfitter and collected classic canoes, kayaks, and bikes – gear that now decorates the restaurant and sparks conversations about nearby trails and rivers.

Pizza & trails

Pinhoti Pizza Company opens

Seeing the growth of the Chief Ladiga and Pinhoti Trails, the Cunninghams launched a brick-oven pizzeria directly on the rail-trail to welcome riders, hikers, and families.

Today

A hub for the outdoor trifecta

Pinhoti Pizza Company continues to highlight Piedmont’s “outdoor trifecta”: hiking the Pinhoti Trail, biking the Chief Ladiga Trail, and paddling Terrapin Creek – with great pizza at the center of it all.
